Taking Good Pictures with Braces

Taking a good picture is always challenging, and doing it with braces can be even more so. These tips and ideas will help you take a better picture while wearing braces.

Choose Less Noticeable Braces

If you're a candidate for Invisalign clear aligners, which are made of a virtually invisible clear plastic material, then the fact that you're having your teeth straightened will hardly be noticeable at all in person, let alone in pictures. But even if Invisalign is not right for you, there other less noticeable braces choices that won’t be as obvious in pictures as traditional braces would be.

Lingual braces, for example, are applied to the backs of your teeth your teeth, so they won’t show at all when you’re smiling for a picture.

Another good choice would be In-Ovation Self-Ligating braces. These are smaller than traditional metal braces, since there are no ties or elastics.

The same goes for ‘translucent’ ceramic braces. The brackets on these are made of a tooth-coloured ceramic material that blends right in with the colour of your teeth, so your braces look less noticeable.

Colour your smile!

The elastics that go on braces come in pretty much any colour you could want, so you can choose a colour that suits you best. In other words, you can look at your braces as an accessory and express yourself with them!

When it comes to having your picture taken, you can pick a colour that looks nice with your eye colour or skin tone. Choose darker coloured braces can make your teeth look whiter and brighter. Most people are better of avoiding white braces, as can make your teeth look a bit darker and more yellow, and browns and certain greens can look like food stuck in your teeth.

Good Oral Hygiene

Clean, healthy teeth always look better! Brush and floss often, and clean your braces themselves carefully to help make your smile look its best. Doing this will help you avoid having pictures taken with food stuck in your teeth, or with discoloured teeth due to lack of care.

Be confident!

Nothing is more attractive than a happy, confident smile, so own your braces, and don’t hold hesitate to smile in pictures. When you first get your braces, it may help to practice smiling at yourself in the mirror. And keep reminding yourself that you look great with your braces!
