Portable Snack Options for Orthodontic Patients

Portable Snack Options for Orthodontic Patients

During your orthodontic treatment, there will likely be certain food that you just can’t eat. These dietary limitations can make packing a lunch for school or work tricky, so here are some ideas for convenient and filling snack options from our Vancouver orthodontists.

Dairy

Foods like yogurt, soft cheeses and pudding are easy on your braces, full of protein and calcium, and they’re tasty, too! They’re usually quite portable and easy to carry around, but do need to be refrigerated after a time.

Soft Fruits

Soft fruits like watermelon, grapes, and kiwis are refreshing and sweet, and have lots of fibre to fill you up between meals. Cut your fruit up at the beginning of the week and store portions in your fridge in plastic baggies or Tupperware to grab and go.

Soft Meats

Lunch meats, meatballs, and soft-cooked meats like chicken are high in protein and will keep you going all day long. Put them on a sandwich or cook up a large batch in sauce to eat with pasta, potatoes and veggies throughout the week.

Soft Veggies

Softer vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, or any cooked veggies are easy to prep and store for easy access during your school or work week. They’re full of vitamins and minerals that will keep your body (including your teeth) healthy and strong.

Thin Crackers or Vegetable Chips

There’s a wide range of healthy cracker and veggie chip options available at the grocery store. Pick out something low in sodium if possible, and nothing too hard or crunchy. Eat them with your soft cheeses and some fruit for a simple, delicious lunch!
